ARTIST'S RECEPTION

Sunday, September 15, 2024

from 2 to 4 pm

Polina Vee, with 16 years of experience in textiles and a BFA in textile design, worked as a leading artist in a top Russian studio before moving to the USA in 2019. Her immigration journey has been profound and transformative, leading her to establish herself as a visual artist. Her artistic practice reflects on the experience of immigration, drawing from personal archives and tracing her own transformation. Polina explores her family's history, the hybridization of identities, and the merging of cultures.

She works with a range of media, including textiles, embroidery, ceramics, and installation. Since 2024, Polina has been part of ArtSpace in Raleigh, NC, with three solo shows scheduled for this year. Her work has been showcased in numerous group exhibitions across the USA.

Polina aspires to be part of the fusion of American culture and contribute her unique perspective to this blend of cultures.

Birches

The birch, a symbol of Russia, reflects my deep connection to my homeland. These sculptures contain my mixed emotions about visiting: the longing for loved ones, coupled with a profound insecurity due to the totalitarian regime that persecutes those who dare to speak out against the government.

Houses

In this series, I explore the question of where home truly is during the immigration process. With no desire to return to a totalitarian regime, I search for a new sense of belonging, blending my current experiences with memories of my homeland.

Bread

During my experience of immigration I explore the history of my family through my personal archives. For me, bread is a sacred and significant symbol, connecting generations, representing the notions of caring, stability, and weal.
