Jones-Carter House
500 W. Rosemary Street

The Jones-Carter House is prominently located at serves as the entry way to the Northside neighborhood.
Town records indicate that the house was built in 1923. Property deeds reveal that the home was owned two long time and well-known Northside residents Walter “Bud” Jones and Sarah Carter. The Marion Cheek Jackson Center writes that, “Neighbors remember Mr. Jones as a long-time employee of OWASA with an infectious smell and love for community. He could often be seen sitting on his front porch, greeting all who passed why, whether he knew them or not”.
The home was then purchased by Ms. Sarah Carter, who lived in the home with her children. Carter also ran the Airport and InTown Taxi out of her home, and provided rides to those going to and from work whether at UNC, NC Memorial Hospital, and other areas round town, as well as transportation to and from RDU International Airport. The home provided lodging for cab drivers who sometimes found it hard to go to and from home between shifts.
Recently purchased by the Self Help Ventures Fund, The house is listed because it has retained its original form and character and has the prospect of becoming an important Northside landmark.
